Candleston Campsite is a large site ideally suited to Live Role Play, Re-enactment, and other activity groups. Over 40 groups from all over the UK have regularly used the site.
Our site is located within a 100 acre woodland in Merthyr Mawr, South Wales.
Adjoining the site is the 900 acre Merthyr Mawr Warren National Nature Reserve fronting over a kilometre of sandy beach, part of the Glamorgan Heritage Coast.
Adjacent to the site is Candleston Castle, an atmospheric, ruined C14th fortified manor house with a large walled courtyard.
The campsite, Nature Reserve, Castle, woodland, and surrounding land offer a huge variety of landscape features, and together form part of Merthyr Mawr Estate.
The site is available to be booked throughout the year, and offers a camping area with toilets, showers, hot water and covered eating area at the western end of the wood.
The camping areas are situated in woodland glades with a capacity to comfortably accommodate groups of 100 or more.
There is also a hut with kitchen area, toilets and showers, and main room which can sleep up to 20 people, towards the eastern end of the wood.
Dotted around the camping area and adjoining woodland are a series of features to enhance role playing events including a fort, tunnels, and fighting pit. Together with the natural features such as mounds, hollows, large trees, and big open glades, the site offers the ideal environment for a wide range of fantasy based events.
The site lies on very sandy, free draining soil and is therefore usable in all weathers!
